Competitive, Efficient, Cost-Effective and Economical Source of Fuel and Energy
Innovative Energy Solutions
Producing Fuel & Energy With Non-Traditional Feedstocks
ONE BIOFAME is a professional consulting agency created to pursue opportunities in the application of innovative gasification solutions. ONE BIOFAME in its short history, has assembled the professional team, resources, financial partners, technologies and various engineering support and complimentary services to carry out the business plans.
For over 30 years, the primary island of our projects, namely the gasification process, has gone through various improvements through modifications and efficiency enhancement, and thus proven in commercial use, for the production of large volumes of synthesis gases that are further used to generate electricity, liquid fuels and other bio-chemical products worldwide.
Market conditions today are very much in favor for gasification projects and continue to remain strong and are increasingly creating opportunities in the alternative energy market. These conditions include:
- Gasification is a now proven and established process
- Changes in commodity pricing environment
- Geopolitical climate instability
- Environmental, “green” characteristics of gasification
- Escalating finding and development costs, thus reducing capital expenditures
- Increased operation and maintenance costs of conventional energy companies such as incineration
The Nature of Our Business
One need not look very far to understand the nature of the business opportunities on which we seek to build the company. Depleting global supplies of conventional oil and gas are unable to meet demand resulting in sustained high commodity prices.
Political instability, the cost and risk associated with locating and developing new finds and the ever-growing demand for more energy is creating opportunities with a widely variable level of associated risk. Our approach to this market is progressive, innovative, and based on a balanced approach to risk management.
ONE BIOFAME seeks to respond to these market conditions with two key strategies. First, by establishing a solid base of owned resources and relationships that provide ready access to feedstock; and, second, by implementing financially sound, proven processes and technologies that will effectively add to our energy base.
Though gasification has been around for more than 150 years, recent technological advancements in combination with the shift in market conditions have enhanced the efficiencies and economies of these processes. With the use of these technologies, we now anticipate developing new projects in four primary business units defined by feedstock category.
- Municipal, Industrial, Medical, Commercial & Sludge Solid Wastes
- Biomass (agricultural residues and energy crop contract farming)
- Petroleum Coke, Oil Sludge, Oil Shale, etc.
- Low Grade Coal and Coal Fines
Our initial operations will focus exclusively on Asia markets. This provides several advantages often missing from new energy initiatives including political and economic stability, ready access to technical expertise and capital, and both mature feedstock resources and sophisticated customers for our outputs.
How to Create Value
ONE BIOFAME’s value creation model involves key processes which must be integrated to ensure success. A summary of the critical success factors in each of the value chain activities appears in the table below.
Gasification converts feedstock into syn-gas
Gasification is mainly a process that converts carbon-containing materials into a synthesis gas, ‘syn-gas’, composed primarily of carbon monoxide and hydrogen. Gasification occurs when a carbon-containing feedstock is exposed to steam at elevated temperatures and/or pressures in the presence of controlled amounts of air or oxygen.
Syn-gas can be used as a fuel to generate electricity or steam, used as a basic chemical building block in the petrochemical and refining industries. According to a 2004 World Gasification Survey over 100 gasification plants are operating in 24 countries with 15% of the plants located in North America.
The predominant feedstock is coal (49%), followed by petroleum (37%) and other carbon-based materials such as natural gas, petroleum coke, biomass or municipal solid waste. The primary product is syn-gas from which other marketable products are generated, including chemicals (37%), liquid fuel (36%), power (19%) and gaseous fuels (8%).
Environmental benefits of gasification
Gasification presents significant environmental benefits over conventional technologies due to its conversion efficiency and the concentrated syn-gas stream that is produced. The conversion rate of organic constituents into syn–gas exceeds 99%.
In addition, due to the high combustion temperature of the gasification reactor and the high temperature of the exit gas, there is virtually no reforming of combustion by-products to form organic compounds of environmental concern such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, dioxin/furans or phenols.
Metals and non-combustible inorganics are melted and captured in the (molten-ash or slag) which when rapidly cooled forms an inert glass-like amorphous solid which is free of any crystalline structure, this process is referred to as vitrification.
In addition, volatile particulate matter removed during syngas cleanup stages can either be recycled back to the Gasification chamber or injected into its slag output where it is also vitrified and rendered inert.
The vitrified material is suitable for aggregate use or can be safely land filled without any pre-treatment. As the concentrated syn-gas exits the gasifier a variety of proven technologies are available to remove impurities or sequester compounds of interest. Emissions from facilities converting Municipal Solid Waste to energy will exceed the standards established by the most stringent regulatory frame work in North America.
Gasification will be particularly beneficial when generating power from coal or petroleum coke when compared to traditional power generating facilities. Emissions of nitrous oxides (N0x) and sulfur dioxide (SO2) will be an order of magnitude lower, carbon dioxide, a known greenhouse gas, can be sequestered or used for enhanced oil recovery projects.
Low value feedstocks fuel the gasification process
- Gasification is the future of flexible power generation. Gasification provides an environmentally friendly process that provides an efficient and stable energy supply for consumers.
- ONE BIOFAME clients gasification plants will not be restricted to a single fuel type; each facility can be built to handle one feedstock, with a wide range of alternatives such as coal, biomass, petroleum coke, waste tires, industrial waste and municipal waste.
- Many of the feedstock that will be converted to energy or beneficial commodities are considered waste byproducts with little or negative value and are considered harmful to our environment.
ONE BIOFAME’s Solution
- High temperature of gasifier converts all hazardous and non- hazardous material to a syngas or an inert slag
- Inert vitrified ash requires no treatment prior to disposal and hence lower operating costs
- Syngas is easily cleaned of impurities yielding emissions below stringent local standards
- Carbon dioxide can be sequestered thus reducing environmental impact.
- Heterogeneous feedstock is acceptable
- Gasification facilities can yield up to 50% conversion of heat content to energy.
- Compliments existing recycling programs.
- Operation produces no long term environmental legacy.
Gasification offers flexibility and scalability
The geographic location, feedstock composition and end user needs will determine the optimum product output or combination of products. Gasification is extremely flexible allowing for single or multiple products to be delivered either concurrently or as demands dictate.
